The Importance Of Home Maintenance

Have you heard that saying, “the days go by slow, but the years go by fast?” That saying seems so apropos when it comes to home maintenance. While it feels like I just switched out the air filter, lo and behold when I check the date, it’s been 3 months already. How does that happen?

Sometimes we just forget, or simply avoid doing the not-so-fun things around the house, but this is your friendly reminder not to do that. Keeping your home maintenance up-to-date can maintain (or boost) your property value, minimize the likelihood that you’ll have to make an insurance claim in the future, and make your home safer for you and your family.

So, this weekend… make your home a priority and check on these four things:

Change your air filter

You should be switching out your air filter as much as once a month. Write the date on it and put a reminder in your phone to switch it out

Check and clean the dryer vent

A clogged dryer vent can be very dangerous and causes more than 15,000 fires per year. Also, check the exhaust vents and make sure they are clear.

Check your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detectors

This seems like a no-brainer, but you should regularly check and make sure these are in working order.

Inspect the outside your house

Check trees around your property for dead branches or rot and over hanging limbs, missing shingles, cracks in cement, loose steps, etc. Make or schedule trimmings/repairs as needed.
